MAX7219 Chip
A serially interfaced 8-digit LED display driver from Maxim Integrated.
It handles multiplexing and current control for up to 64 individual LEDs.
Communicates with microcontrollers via SPI-like serial interface (DIN, CLK, LOAD).
A matrix with 8 rows and 8 columns of LEDs (total 64 LEDs).
Can display characters, numbers, symbols, animations.
Often includes headers, resistors, and capacitors needed for operation.
May have daisy-chain capability for connecting multiple displays.
Microcontroller (MCU) sends serial data to MAX7219.
MAX7219 decodes and lights up the correct LEDs based on that data.
The chip handles refreshing, so the MCU doesn’t have to.
